Albert Einstein pens a humorous manuscript

Albert Einstein Autograph Manuscript Signed on the rear pastedown of the book Einstein: His Life and Times, by Philipp Frank (New York: Alfred A Knopf, 1947), 298 pages. 8vo. The physicist writes in full in German:

"That which my friend recounts here poetically
    Was truly chosen sympathetically.
There are some other things he would know about
That would not reflect as well upon me, no doubt.
    A. Einstein 1947

Einstein appears to write his humorous manuscript in response to an "Addendum" written in German in an unknown hand on the rear free endpaper:

    "5 October 1947
Yes it was a lovely time
When we strolled, the two of us
    Through the leafy Berlin Zoo.
One day there was a great hullabaloo
    The Orangutan grabbed his hat
And thought it looked good on him as well
Ever since this terrible larcenous affair
Einstein walks around without a hat.
    't that true?"

Below Einstein's manuscript on the rear pastedown is written in German in another unknown hand,

"Dear Elly, you see what happened to me
    So don
't get too close to man-apes!
Be sure to beware of 'ape-men' too
    Because that
    's basically the same breed.
    R. E.
    Greenwich, Oct. 6th 1947

The rear free endpaper and pastedown are slightly soiled and toned. Original gilt-stamped red cloth.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
