    Description

    Henry P. Brewster Autograph Letter Signed. One page, 5" x 8", Richmond; October 7, 1862. Addressed to Brigadier General Henry B. Davidson, the letter introduces Judge Simon Hart of El Paso, Texas and Col. Lawrence W. O'Bannon. It reads in part: "...leave in the morning for Genl Lee's Army on a visit to their friend Genl Longstreet. They may possibly be detained at Staunton & if so & they need any facilities you will please show them, all such assistance...may be in your power..." Signed, "H P Brewster." Brewster fought in the Texas Revolution and served as a secretary to General Sam Houston. He was an adjunct general to Albert Johnston and was with him when he fell at the Battle of Shiloh. The town of Brewster in Texas was named for the Colonel. From the Military Archive of CSA General Henry B. Davidson.

    Simon Hart was later responsible for bringing New Mexico, Arizona and Nevada into the Confederacy.

    Condition: Mounting residue with paper attachment on verso. Toning from residue has bled through along the recto left margin. Smoothed mail folds.
