Description

Harvey Samuel Firestone Autograph Letter Signed "Your devoted husband Harvey." Four pages, 8.25" x 10.75", on Detroit and Cleveland Navigation Company letterhead with a superb engraved vignette, written aboard the steamer City of Cleveland, June 12, 1910, to his wife, Idabelle. A personal letter to his wife describing a lake voyage from Detroit to Canada and back. In part:

"...have had a very pleasant trip but I am not a very good sailor as you know...I got up for breakfast, but there was a swell rolling and I did not eat much breakfast but went back to bed, got up at one for lunch feeling much better, they had services this morning just out side [sic] my room so I was just as well off in bed. You know that I am not very sociable on ship board. Mssrs. Ford, Couzens and a number of prominent men on board...with much love and many kisses for my sweet muffin and boys...".

The exact nature of Firestone's junket is unknown, but given the presence of Henry Ford and James J. Couzens, the purpose was no doubt automobile related. With the usual fold marks, page three has been torn just below the vignette, but professionally repaired, two tiny clean tears to first page, otherwise fine condition.
