DescriptionHarry Truman Typed Letter Signed. One page of a bifolium, 7" x 8.75", The White House; June 19, 1948. Addressed to a Sam Solins and written on White House letterhead. In this letter President Truman declines Solins offer to send along his spectacle prescription so that Solins' friend may make him new pair. It reads in part: "...I've been wearing spectacles ever since I was eight years old and I've had every kind and variety fitted on me and none of them make me see perfectly because that is impossible. The glasses I am wearing are the most comfortable in a long time and, while I know the good Doctor's intentions are of the best, I believe I prefer to wear the glasses I have..."
The lot also includes a copy of Sam Solins' letter to the President which prompted his reply.
Condition: Letter has smoothed mail fold and some light creasing.
