A war-dated signature on an imprinted slip of paper that reads "the President of the United States", matted to an overall size of 4.75" x 3.25". Nicolay (1832-1901) was appointed as Abraham Lincoln's personal secretary in 1861 and is the author of The Outbreak of the Rebellion. [and:] John Wanamaker Autograph Letter Signed. One page, 5.75" x 8.75", Philadelphia, September 1st, 1888. A letter to Erastus Brainerd congratulating him on the growth of his paper, "The fight you are making will doubtless develop more & more your journalisitc powers & be manifest in your work." Wanamaker (1838-1922) was an American merchant who pioneered marketing and is considered the father of advertising. [and:] Wendell Willke Typed Letter Signed. One page, 8.25" x 10", New York, May 29, 1944. On his personal letterhead, Willkie writes in full: " I do hope that your moving to new and larger quarters may be interpreted as being symbolic of your ever-increasing influence". Willkie (1892-1944) was Franklin D. Roosevelt's presidential opponent in 1940.
