Georgia O'Keefe Great Content Autograph Letter Signed twice "Georgia O'Keefe" and "G. O'K". Four pages, 8.5" x 11", plain stationery, Abiquiu, New Mexico, May 18, 1954, to James Thrall Soby discussing painting and the related difficulties. In part, "...The word is difficult for me- but so is painting- but I like to paint and the word is left floating somewhere out there in space- I am inclined to think that as a painter I had better just let the word go by and not try to pin myself down with it...what I am painting has nothing to do with what seems to me the fashions of my time..." In the postscript, "This was written yesterday and not mailed because I thought you would probably think I was out of my mind..." Soby, an art historian, was associated with the New York Museum of Modern Art. Very fine condition, mailing folds, original transmittal envelope included, addressed in O'Keefe's hand. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
