    Description

George Washington Autograph Letter Signed, "G Washington". One page, 7.0" x 7.5", Mount Vernon, Virginia, January 26, 1785 to William Fitzhugh of Fredericksburg, Virginia. William Fitzhugh (1741-1809), master of Chatham Hall, was a friend and old political associate of Washington's. In fact, he was the last person the first president visited away from Mount Vernon. Here Washington requests a personal favor. The letter reads in full, "Dear Sir, Doctr Gilpin and Mr. Scott who will have the pleasure of delivering this letter to you, are from the West Indies on a tour thro' the States - They are recommended to me by Mr. Morris and others of Philadelphia, & I find them agreeable gentlemen. I take the liberty therefore of introducing them to your civilities as they pass through Fredericksburgh. Mrs Washington joins me in best respects to Mrs Fitzhugh & I am Doctor Yr Most Obed svt &c". The letter is folded into a hand-carried envelope and one verso panel is addressed " William Fitzhugh Esq at Chatham". Framed to 20.5" x 14" with a lithograph of George Washington and having a window on the back displaying the address panel. Moderate archival repairs along folds, light stains and overall browning. Good condition. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
