George Washington Autograph Document Signed. Single sheet, 3.5" x 6.25"; November 25, 1774. In full: "Note. The land containd by the within coursed is sold to Mr. Wm Holmes for the sum of four hundred and sixty pounds Virg[inia]. Curr[enc]y. Who will have a Deed of Conveyance made for the same so soon as approved security is given for the purchase money above. Nov.r 25th 1774. Go: Washington." Being an agreement for the sale of land belonging to the estate of John Mercer, of which Washington was the executor. Mercer was a lawyer and land speculator, who served as Washington's lawyer.

A description of the land being sold is written in an unknown hand on the recto of the sheet. Notes below Washington's writing, perhaps a listing of expenses, are crossed out.

Condition: Evenly toned, with a bit of ink burn resulting in paper loss well away from Washington's writing. Notes made below are crossed out and illegible. Margin along right is uneven, where the paper was torn likely at the time that this agreement was first written by Washington. A few surface scrapes affects some words.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
