I should have seen you before but have been in almost daily expectation of going to Washington ... on my return I will at once inform you & appoint an hour for an interview..."

    More Information:

Justus McKinstry served as US Army Quartermaster at St. Louis from July to November 1861, at which time he was dismissed and brought up on charges of fraud and his Court Martial took place in October 1862. He was dismissed from the army in 1863, so the papers referred in this letter are likely the transcripts from his court martial.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
