DescriptionGeorge Crabbe Autograph Letter Signed "Geo Crabbe." One page, folded down to 4.5" x 7.25", n. p., October 28 (n. y.). He writes, in part: "I must intreat you to forgive my Stupidity: I had on first view concluded that the obliging Invitation I received was written by Miss Tring...I have long since begged to be excused for no joining Evening Parties...for I must confess to you ...that I neither give nor received pleasure on such Occasions, my Want of Hearing distinctly is troublesome to my Friends and that makes the Time pass off heavily..." Weakened folds with little spots of separation, but no loss of paper or text.
George Crabbe (1754-1832) was an English poet and naturalist whose poetry was much-admired by Byron, and whose work "The Borough" was the inspiration for Benjamin Britten's opera Peter Grimes.
