    General James Longstreet Autograph Letter Signed "J. Longstreet Maj. Gen." One page, 5" x 8", "Hd Qrs"; June 17, 1862. Addressed to General Daniel H. Hill, the letter provides orders for a defensive maneuver if an attack was made on Chaffins Bluff. The letter reads in full: "Please give such orders as may be necessary to put Gen. Wise in position to support and hold the position Chaffins Bluff battery if it should be attacked. He may be in such position now. If so all that will be necessary will be to give him the order to render the necessary support at the proper time."

    With docketing on verso along with a Daniel H. Hill Autograph Endorsement Signed "DH Hill" on verso. Hill's endorsement is addressed to General Wise and reads, "I send you the order from Gen Longstreet viz immediate [illegible] & suppose that the road can be picketed by cavalry and a small force of infantry. The attack as I take it will be made directly on the Batteries." Also on verso is a Henry Wise Autograph Endorsement Signed "Henry A Wise" that states he received the letter and answered it the same hour.

    Condition: Flattened mail folds, with light toning, foxing, and soiling. Bold signatures.
