Description

General Gabriel Paul: Stereoview, Carte de Visite, and Autograph Note Signed. Both images show Paul in uniform. The CDV, 2.5" x 4", is a full-length portrait of Paul, standing with arms folded. The stereoview, 7" x 4", is a chest up portrait of Paul and clearly shows the injuries to his eyes. Paul was wounded in the left eye during the first day of fighting at Gettysburg, leaving him totally blind with impaired hearing and smell. Measuring 5" x 7.25", the one page note, dated August 3, 1864, ordering the paymaster to pay his wife "the amount of my pay accounts for July 1864." Gen. Paul, a veteran of the Seminole and Mexican Wars, remained in the army until February 1865 when he was retired from service.
