Fritz Kreisler Autograph Musical Quotation Signed. One page, 9" x 3.75", no place; April, 1940. Five bars of Kreisler's violin and piano composition, Schön Rosmarin. Signed in ink, "Schön Rosmarin / Fritz Kreisler / April 1940."

Fritz Kreisler (1875-1962) was an Austrian-born American violinist and composer. Regarded as one of the greatest violinists of all time, he entered the Vienna Conservatory at the age of 7. After a few years he moved on to the Paris Conservatory in order to study with Lambert Massart and Leo Delibes. While there, at the age of 12, he won the "Premier Grand Prix de Rome" gold medal. He left music to study medicine in 1895, but returned to concerts only three years later. Kreisler later undertook several successful tours in the United States and Europe. Schön Rosmarin was published in 1905 and deliberately misattributed by Kreisler to composer Joseph Lanner. He sheepishly admitted to composing it, along with several others, in 1935; he blamed his falsehood on the need for concerts to contain well-rounded pieces by established composers at this time.

    Condition: Very good.
