Pánuco, Veracruz, Mexico: Fondo de Cultura Economica, 1941. 4to, 405 pages. Bound in brown leather with marbled endsheets; tightly bound. Black and white illustrations throughout; maps. Title on front board and spine in gilt. Five raised bands along the spine. Inscribed on the front flyleaf in blue ink, in full: "For H. E. General Jorge Ubico/President of the Republic of Guatemala/From his friend/Franklin D. Roosevelt." Ubico was President of Guatemala from 1931 to 1944. Early on he assumed a pro-American stance to help recover from economic depression. He regarded the United States as his closest ally in North America. Slightly rubbed along the spine and corners; minor shelf wear. Else in near fine condition.
