A one of a kind item, taken from a legal document signed by FDR, his half-brother James Roosevelt Roosevelt ("Rosy"), and his nephew Warren Delano III, all three as trustees for FDR's mother Sara D. Roosevelt. The document portion containing the three signatures, plus the signature of J. B. Gibson, who witnessed the signatures, measures 2 ½ x 8" and contains a ten cent red documentary seal. The legal document states: "In Witness Whereof, We have hereunto set our hands and seals this Third day of May One thousand nine hundred and sixteen./ J. R. Roosevelt/ Warren Delano/ Franklin D. Roosevelt/ Trustees for Sara D. Roosevelt/ J. R. Roosevelt [signed]/ Warren Delano [signed]/ Franklin D. Roosevelt [signed]/ Sealed and delivered in the presence of J. B. Gibson [signed]." This document is related to Sara Roosevelt's estate when FDR was Assistant Secretary of the Navy in the Woodrow Wilson Administration. FDR's father, James Roosevelt (1828-1900), married Rebecca Brien Howland (1831-1876). They had one son, James Roosevelt Roosevelt (1854-1927), nicknamed "Rosy," a full generation older than FDR. After James Roosevelt's first wife died, he married Sara Ann Delano (1854-1941), and in 1882 they had one son, Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1882-1945). In 1878 James Roosevelt Roosevelt married Helen Schermerhorn Astor (1855-1893), and in 1914, he married Elizabeth Riley (d. 1948). FDR's nephew, Warren Delano III (1852-1890),was actually thirty years the senior of Uncle FDR! Delano was born at Algonac in 1852. After graduating from Harvard University in 1874 he joined the management of the Union Mining Company at Mt. Savage, Maryland. In the summer of 1876 he married Jennie Walters of Baltimore. Warren III had many- mining, banking and railroad interests; as a hobby be bred horses at Steen Valetje. He was killed on September 9, 1920 when his horse ran into the path of an oncoming train at Barrytown, New York. At the time of his death, Delano was a director of the Union Mining Company, President of the Delano Coal Company, and Chairman of the Board of the Vinton Colliery Company. A wonderful and rare legal item signed by FDR, his half-brother and nephew, related to the estate of FDR's mother Sara Delano Roosevelt.
