FDR makes plans to attend the 1928 Democractic Convention with his son

Franklin D. Roosevelt Autograph Letter Signed "Father." One page, 7.25" x 10.75", on Roosevelt's Fidelity and Deposit Company of Maryland letterhead, New York City, n.d. [January 22, 1928]. This rare, personal, handwritten letter was penned by Roosevelt just prior to his decision to run for Governor of New York. In it, he invites his son James to join him at the upcoming Democratic Convention in Houston. Letter reads in full: "Dear Jimmy - All accommodations are booked for 8:30 p.m. on Friday & we'll have a grand time. By the way, find out about when you can leave Cambridge in the Spring. What do you say to you & Elliott going with me to the Houston Convention which starts June 26th? I ought to get there the 24th at the latest. Hope the exams are coming all right. Much love, Devotedly, Father."

Roosevelt would attend the Houston Democratic convention that summer, and by October he'd decided to throw his hat into the ring for the Governorship of New York, an election he barely won. Four years later, Roosevelt would become the 32nd President of the United States with nearly 89% of the electoral vote, a position he held for an incredible four terms. Roosevelt died in office in 1945. After college, Roosevelt's son James worked as an insurance company executive, but in 1937 he would abandon his career to become his father's personal White House secretary. Familial letters such as this, penned completely in Roosevelt's hand, are few and far between. Accompanied by the original transmittal envelope, also accomplished in FDR's hand. An outstanding presidential collectible with political content!
