Francisco Ruiz Autograph Letter Signed, 2pp., 6" x 8", Tenoxtitlan [Texas], June 8, 1831, to Jesus Garcia regarding business matters. He informs Garcia that Pedro Salinas has been charged with bringing him a shipment of bear skins for which he will pay cash. He adds that he is writing now because he was aware that Garcia had been away at Galveston.

This letter is written at the very end of Ruiz's service in the Mexican army. He would retire the following year in 1832. A friend of Stephen F. Austin, Ruiz would embrace the struggle for Texas Independence in 1835. In February 1836, he traveled to Washington-on-the Brazos to participate as a delegate to the Convention; and on March 2, along with his nephew Jose Antonio Navarro, would become the only two native Texans to sign the Texas Declaration of Independence. A scarce and desirable signature of the Revolution. From the Taking of Texas Collection.
