Francis Crick Working Draft Manuscript (Unsigned) for an Article Titled, "Visual Perception: Rivalry and Consciousness", published in Nature magazine, volume 379, February 8, 1996. Nine pages on lined paper, with an additional 4 pages listing all references used, 8.25" x 11". Dated "Jan 3d 95" at the top of the first page. Written entirely in Crick's hand, this is a rough draft with various emendations throughout. Crick numbers the pages 1 through 9 in the top corner, and his references are carefully outlined in the remaining four pages.

The manuscript was found laid in a copy of Verve, an arts quarterly, which likely belonged to Odile Crick, whose signature appears on the title page.

After his groundbreaking work in molecular biology which culminated in the discovery of the structure of DNA, Crick turned his focus to theoretical neurobiology and the study of human consciousness. The manuscript presented here, is one such example and is written in an accessible language as would be appropriate for a magazine such as Nature.

Included with the lot is the issue of Verve in which the manuscript was found, as well as a photocopy of the article as it appeared in the February 8, 1996 issue of Nature.

Condition: The pages were originally stapled at top left corner, which has resulted in pinholes, a bit of rusting, and creasing. A few small creases occurring at other corners. Paper has yellowed a bit with age. The magazine is lacking the backstrip, and the cover has chipping. Binding is loose, with toning throughout.
