FOUR-PAGE LETTER SIGNED BY NAPOLEON BONAPARTE. Lengthy, fine-content May 26, 1811 letter signed "Nap," with holograph emendations. Following defeats in Portugal in March and April, he writes a detailed letter to Berthier urging the reorganization of his army there, with many specific recommendations to be transmitted to Marshal Marmont, who was a top officer and had succeeded to the command of Napoleon’s army in Portugal. Interestingly, the architect of his Portuguese defeats was the Duke of Wellington, who was to deliver the military coup de grace to Napoleon four years later at Waterloo. Excellent condition on this historically-significant item. 7 ¼ x 9." LOA Spence and Grad PSA/DNA.
