Emma Borden Document Signed "Emma L. Borden". One page, 8" x 10.5", December 4, 1917, granting the power of attorney to Andrew J. Jennings of Fall River. In the document, Emma has given Jennings the power "to manage and control all my real estate and insurance thereon, to sell and to convey by warranty deed or otherwise at public or private sale my undivided half of the land on the easterly side of Second street in said Fall River and described in deed to my father Andrew J. Borden from Charles Trafton dates April 26 1872 and recorded Bristol Co. No. District Book 322 Folios 120, 121 and in my name to execute, acknowledge and deliver all necessary and proper deeds or other instruments in writing sealed or unsealed".

Andrew Jackson Jennings had previously defended Emma's sister, Lizzie Borden, following the murder of their parents. The murder case was a national media sensation, and although Lizzie Borden was acquitted, she was widely believed to be guilty. No one else was ever arrested or tried for the murders. In 1905, Emma moved out of the Borden House on Second Street, following a dispute with Lizzie; the two women would never meet again.
