Edward Rutledge Document Signed. One page, docketed on verso, 6" x 7.5", n.p. [Charleston, SC], July 1, 1777. Despite his signature on the Declaration of Independence, on July 1, 1776, as a member of the Second Continental Congress, Rutledge voted against independence, believing the time was not quite right for such an act. Exactly one year later, Rutledge signed this legal document as attorney for the plaintiff, which reads, in full: "And the said Gabriel Capers by Jacob Read his Attorney comes & defends the force & Injury when and so forth & pleads that he is in no wise guilty of the Premises above laid to his charge in such manner & form as the said Levi Durand complains against him and thereof he putteth himself upon the County. And the said Levi doth so likewise & so forth. E. Rutledge." Document is also signed by Jacob Read as attorney for the defendant. Like Rutledge, Read represented South Carolina in the Second Continental Congress. Docketed on verso by Rutledge: "Right on demise of Levi Durand - Gabriel Capers/Plea." Lightly toned; small spot of ink burn in the paraph beneath Read's signature. Mounting traces on verso.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
