    He writes, in full:

"As perhaps you know, Sir Winston Churchill is coming to this country in early May. I am planning to have a stag dinner for him at the White House on Wednesday evening, May sixth, at 7:30 P. M., (black tie). If it is possible for you to join us, I would be delighted, but I shall fully understand any circumstances that might prevent your coming. I would appreciate an answer at your early convenience."

Churchill's 1959 visit to the White House would prove to be his last. Leonard Carmichael, a professor and teacher, was secretary of the Smithsonian Institution and would later be named vice president of research and exploration for the National Geographic Society.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
