Description

Dwight D. Eisenhower Autograph Letter Signed on verso of a Golfing Photograph. One page on back of a photograph, 5" x 7", taken of him and Willard S. Cox at Wildcat Lake, Wisconsin; circa 1948. Eisenhower writes to "Bob," about his vacation with Cox. "Dear Bob / The King of Wildcat Lake-here pictured with yours truly-has a lake into which you should throw a hook. He also has barbeque-begonias-Beulah and cold weather in August. Hope to see you in September-take care of yourself. /as ever Ike Eisenhower / P.S. My brown berét made a hit in Wisconsin."

Cox also added a note in pencil in the corners, just touching Eisenhower's writing. Willard Cox, president of the Coca Cola Company, owned a summer home on Wildcat Lake, Wisconsin. He invited General and Mrs. Eisenhower to vacation there during the summer of 1948, and this photo was likely taken during that trip.

Together with an unsigned photograph, 10"x 8", 1948, with photo stamp of Morgan Fitz, Augusta, Georgia on verso. The photo is a group shot of (L-R), William E. Robinson, Eisenhower, Robert Woodruff, Clifford Roberts, and George Allen at Augusta National Country Club in the spring of 1948. Robinson was the publisher of the New York Herald Tribune and later president of Coca Cola Company; Robert Woodruff was chairman of the board of the Coca Cola Company; Clifford Roberts was chairman of the Augusta National Country Club; and George Allen was a corporate advisor.

Two photographs which show Eisenhower with close friends a few years after World War II and before he was a Republican presidential candidate. In 1948 Eisenhower served as Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army and later as president of Columbia University. From the Estate of Malcolm S. Forbes.

Condition: Both photographs are in fine condition. Eisenhower's handwritten letter is in pencil; very clear and free of smudges.
