    Description

David Crockett: Free Frank [FF] Stampless Cover. 9.5" x 8" manuscript stampless cover, addressed in the hand of Davy Crockett to: "John Wickham Esq/ Richmond Va" and inscribed by him in the upper right comer "Free/ David Crockett". Crockett represented Tennessee in the U. S. House of Representatives from March 4, 1827 to March 4, 1835, with the exception of the 1831-1833 term. His 1831 defeat was based on his opposition to the Indian Removal Act, a proposal to abolish West Point and opposition to a pension to be given the widow of Stephen Decatur. The cover is endorsed "David Crockett/ 6th July 1829/ rev'd. 14th will/ write as requested/ within letter/ to Col. Lambert". Loss at top, minor tear and folds at bottom, not affecting inscription. Handsomely double-matted and framed. Wickham was a prominent attorney from a Loyalist family. He served as a young ensign in the Revolutionary War and was captured and tried as a spy. He later helped Loyalist families in Richmond collect old debts from colonial merchants. He successfully defended Aaron Burr in his treason trial.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
