DescriptionConfederate General Robert Selden Garnett War Date Document Signed "R. S. Garnett." One page, 7.75" x 10", Richmond, May 27, 1861.
General Garnett had the dubious distinction of being the first general killed in the Civil War. He signs Special Order No. 127, which directs that four companies "best prepared for active service in the field" be sent by railroad to Manassas Junction. Presumably these companies were sent to Manassas in the lead up to the war's first major battle. Garnett was killed less than two months later leading a retreat following the Battle of Rich Mountain. Faint show-through of the ink docket on the reverse, else fresh and fine condition.
