One partially-printed page, 31" x 10.75", Washington, March 4, 1864, entitled "Muster and Descriptive Roll of a Detachment of United States Volunteers, forwarded by Lt. Col. S. Eastman USA, for the Second Vet. (2nd) Regiment of N.Y.S.V. Cavalry stationed at Department of Washington." Containing the names and military information of twenty-five cavalrymen. Toned with folds.

    More Information:

Seth Eastman retired from the military as a lieutenant colonel in 1863 because of a disability. He continued until the end of the war, however, to serve in various posts, including this one overseeing the admission of recruits. As an artist, he is most known for his Native-American postwar paintings. This muster roll contains information for each soldier, including place of birth, occupation, enlistment details, physical descriptions, and more.
