Christopher Morley: the Original Manuscript of his Great Homage, "Sherlock Holmes' Prayer." Autograph Manuscript Signed ("C.M."), "Sherlock Holmes' Prayer" and bearing the author's inscription at top, "This first draft of S.H.'s Supplication is given to L.G. for his amusement, with much regard from his friend", 2 full pages, 8.5" by 13", no place, no date. The original working draft, in Fine condition. Since 1887, when A Study in Scarlet first appeared, there have been over 10,000 novels, short stories, parodies, burlesques, pastiches, critical studies, reviews, essays, appreciations and scholarly examinations - to say nothing of plays, television programs and films - devoted to Sherlock Holmes. Virtually all of the material is important in that it refers to the world's greatest detective. First among men to discern that anything and everything to do with Holmes must be collected, was Christopher Morley, the author, who founded in 1934 the Baker Street Irregulars. Because of Morley, and others like him, we now know that Holmes, Watson, and - ah!- Irene, are realer than ourselves. Here, then, is a very great treat: all ten stanzas of Holmes' supplication, ala Morley. It begins "Grant me, O Spirit of Reason, matter for deduction, Intuition, and Analysis; plenty of three-pipe problems, that I may avoid the cowardice of seven percent cocaine..." and ends with a note, by Watson, correcting Holmes' "usual grammatical error: between when he should have said among", and alluding to "IRENE." From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
