Charles Siringo Signed Map, circa 1924. This map, Rand McNally Official Auto Trails Map Texas, measures 33.75" x 27.25" and features all of Texas, minus the Panhandle, with insets featuring the areas around El Paso and Brownsville. At the lower right edge, Siringo has written, in pencil: "This is the rout [sic] I took up the Chisholm Trail to Red River Station in 1876. / [signed] Chas. A. Siringo." Siringo has traced the route along the map, also in pencil, beginning near Midfields, Texas, traveling north through Lockhart, Austin, Belton, Cleburne, and Fort Worth before terminating on the Texas side of the Red River, just west of Thackerville, Oklahoma. The inscription and the map are undated, but there is a reference on the map to 108 years of Remington Arms' existence, placing the inscription somewhere around 1924, four years before Siringo's death.

Horizontal folds are weak and beginning to separate at the edges. Spots of separation near the intersections of the vertical and horizontal folds, with areas of minor paper loss. A small tear near Siringo's inscription has been repaired with tape, just touching the "ingo" in his last name, with no ill effect.

Before becoming a lawman and Pinkerton agent, Charlie Siringo (1855-1928) worked as a cowboy and took part in many drives up the Chisholm Trail, Red River Station being the last Texas stop along the trail. He left the life sometime in the mid-1880s when he moved to Kansas and became a merchant. Growing bored, he moved to Chicago in 1886 and joined the Pinkerton Detective Agency, beginning a career in law enforcement.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
