    Description

Charles Cornwallis Autograph Letter Signed ALS "Cornwallis", one page, 7" x 9", Brome, October 23, 1795, with routine business content regarding disposition. In part: "I would at all events have you discharge the amount of the Draft and place the sum to my account." The usual mail folds are present; with light soiling, otherwise near fine.

It was under Cornwallis' command that the British forces surrendered to Washington at Yorktown. After returning to England, he was later appointed governor-general and commander in chief in India in 1789. His service in India did much to restore his reputation and he was awarded the title of Marquis in 1792.
