    Description

Charles A. Lindbergh Typed Letter Signed and Signed Photograph with related papers. One page typed letter on Lindbergh's imprinted letterhead, 8.5" x 11"; New York; November 12, 1931. A brief letter to Jesse S. Butcher of the Columbia Broadcasting System sending apologies for missing him the previous week. He adds: "At present I am getting ready for a flight over the Pan American line next week." Signed "C.A. Lindbergh." The letter has creasing, toning, and minor separations at some folds along the margins.

The letter is accompanied by a photograph of Lindbergh inscribed to Butcher, which likely dates from an earlier time, based on the appearance of his signature. The photograph is heavily damages, and with most of the bottom and top left corner torn off. Loss along the right side as well as a puncture to Lindbergh's cheek, and a small hole to the left of his face. The bold signature and inscription are untouched.

Jesse Butcher was a publicity director for CBS, and may have been helping Charles Lindbergh promote himself during his various flying expeditions. Included are several sheets listing publications and payments made in relation to Lindbergh's flights. Most notably is a sheet titled "For Articles by Charles Lindbergh (flight to Paris)", listing 33 publications and the amounts paid, totaling $5500. Similar sheets are titled "Lindbergh Mexican Flight Series" and "Lindbergh Central-South American Series"

Two smaller forms titled "Lindbergh Atlantic Flight" and "Lindbergh - Mexican Flight" Dated February 8 ad 9, 1928 show substantial payments made to Lindbergh for syndication of his articles.

Lastly, there is a telegraph sent by Lindbergh to Butcher dated June 29, 1929 advising that he has forwarded the manuscripts and films. The telegraph has been torn in four and crudely repaired with cello tape.

Condition: All documents have toning and light wear, except as described above.
