William Fargo Letter Signed, "Wm. G. Fargo," three pages on American Express letterhead, 8.5" x 11", New York City, September 9, 1880, to "Messr Bowen Rogers & Locke", Buffalo, New York. This letter to a law firm regards an impending suit against the Louisville, New Albany & Chicago Railroad. Fargo states in part that, "...we have concluded to commence suit in the Federal Court against this Railroad as advised by you, unless that Company will consent to the application which we have this day instructed our Mr. Julien to make them, viz, to leave our business on their line undisturbed..." Very light soiling, fine condition. Fargo became president of American Express Co. in 1866, holding that position until his death in 1881.
