    Description

William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody Signed Cabinet Card with 1893 Chicago Wild West Program. A 4.25" x 6.5" photo by Joseph G. Gessford of 288 Fifth Avenue, New York. The distinguished showman's beard is graying and he is in a dress suit and hat as opposed to western gear. It is signed at lower right: "W F Cody/ 'Buffalo Bill'/ Feb 14th/ 1906". Quite a handsome portrait. Pristine, framed to an overall 8" x 10".

Also included is a Buffalo Bill's Wild West and Congress of Rough Riders of the World program for the 1893 season next door to the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. Its sixty-four pages are illustrated with numerous engravings and halftone photographic images. Featured acts included "Miss Annie Oakley, celebrated Shot, who will illustrate her dexterity in the use of Fire-arms", "Col. W. F. Cody, ("Buffalo Bill"), in his Unique Feats of Sharpshooting", and "The Battle of the Little Big Horn, Showing with Historical Accuracy the scene of Custer's Last Charge". The text includes a biography of Cody, an account of the Ghost Dance movement and the Wounded Knee incident, and a chronicle of the Wild West Show's European tour of 1887-1892. The many half-tone illustrations include Sitting Bull and other prominent Sioux figures, Cody and army officers on horseback near the Pine Ridge Reservation in 1891, and a full page photograph of "Buffalo Bill and the first American Indians that have visited Venice" seated in full regalia in a gondola. The original chromolithographic wrappers are intact, light wear, fine.
