Wiley Post and Harold Gatty Signed Photograph. Black and white photograph, measuring 8" x 10", inscribed on the bottom right corner by Harold Gatty: "To Dick/very sincerely." Both men have placed their signatures after the inscription. Post is seated in front of Gatty, both men looking off to their left, providing a near profile shot.

Wiley H. Post, an American pilot, and Harold C. Gatty, an Australian navigator, were the first to circumnavigate the world in a fixed-wing aircraft from June 23-July 1, 1931. Leaving Roosevelt Field in Long Island, New York, aboard the Winnie Mae, the flight took 8 days, 15 hours, and 51 minutes. The previous record of 21 days to fly around the world was held by the German dirigible Graf Zeppelin.

In 1935, Wiley Post was piloting a plane crashed near Point Barrow, Alaska, killing not only himself, but also his friend, entertainer Will Rogers. From the Richard Blythe Aviation Collection.
