The letter concerns a horse purchased by Fielding, Jr. which was supposed to be paid for in wheat.

When John's childless uncle, Supreme Court Justice Bushrod Washington, nephew of George Washington, died in 1829, John's father inherited Mount Vernon in Jefferson County. He died in 1832. In 1855, John's widowed mother transferred Mount Vernon to her son John. John was the last Washington to own Mount Vernon. To preserve it, he sold it to the Mount Vernon Ladies Association in 1858.

A varied collection, including letters written by and to members of the Bassett family, direct descendants of both George Washington's brother Charles and Martha Washington's sister Anna Maria. Worthy of further research.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
