Vivian Leigh Typed Letter Signed "Vivian". Two pages (front and back of a single sheet), 4.25" x 4.75" (sight), Chelsea, England; January 21, 1953. Written from Durham Cottage, the home she shared with Laurence Olivier, Leigh wrote to her friend and American journalist, Radie Harris. Leigh thanks Harris for her gifts of a nightdress and nightshirt and shares her travel plans, in part: "I am flying to Ceylon by Comet on Monday and shall probably be there about three weeks. I am hoping Larry can come and join me for at least a few days. Then we come back and maybe shoot two or three days in England, after which we fly straight to the coast. Larry might be in New York for a few days, but you are quite right darling, I shall not have any time in the east after the picture as I shall fly straight home." At this time, Leigh was filming Elephant Walk in Ceylon. Once filming concluded, Leigh had a nervous breakdown and began struggling with mental illness. Olivier took her back to their home in England, but the episode revealed her mental health struggles to many of the pair's friends. The couple eventually divorced in 1960.

The letter is matted and framed showing the verso, with a color copy of the recto and a photograph of Leigh and Clark Gable from Gone with the Wind, as well as a small plaque. A gold seal, attesting to the item's authenticity as issued by Walt Disney World, is affixed to the lower left corner of the glass. The frame measures 19.75" x 19.75" overall.

Condition: Flattened mail folds and light toning, else very good.
