Stephen Girard Document Signed "Stephen Girard." One page, 7.75" x 9.75", Philadelphia, June 17, 1811, to Peter S. Duponceau. In full: "The Arbitrators in the case between Stephen Girard and John Hourquebie have adjourned to this Evening at 7. O Clock at the Merchants Coffee House." Stephen Girard was an American banker and businessman who established a successful partnership with John Hourquebie in the late 18th and early 19th century. This document very likely pertains to an attempt by one of the men to recoup losses from a failed mercantile venture. Of note, Peter Duponceau was a Revolutionary War officer who later served as secretary to U.S. Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Robert Livingston. A beautifully written document, clear legible and in fine condition with only mild foxing and the usual fold creases.
