    Description

    Samuel Colt Autograph Letter Signed. One page, 7.75" x 9.75", Hartford [Connecticut], June 28, 1852. Addressed to "Messrs Hilger & Co.," Colt requests better wine, in part as written: "Pleas send me two dozen champagn in Quarts of the same vintage as the last . . . The vin you last sent me . . . is not good quallity. Should you have any now that is better, or if you receive any soon which you think of superior quality . . . send me a cople baskets for tryal." On the verso of this letter are the beginnings of an earlier letter, dated two days prior, regarding a trip to New York by a Mr. Dickerson, likely Colt's attorney, Edward Dickerson. This second letter has been crossed through several times. Colt's signature is smudged slightly at the beginning.
