Quentin Roosevelt Photograph Signed "Quentin Roosevelt". A sepia toned Curtis image, 8" x 6", mounted to a paper backing mat to an overall size of 11" x 9.5", mounting stains which have bled through to the front and which modestly affect the inscription, otherwise the photo is in fine condition. Blind embossed Curtis copyrught imprint at lower left.

Quentin Roosevelt (1897-1918) was Theodore Roosevelt's youngest, and some say favorite, son. This fine sepia photograph captures Quentin at about age seven as he carefully inspects wild flowers in a rural setting. On the mat below the photograph young Roosevelt writes in his childish hand: "To dear Mademoiselle with love from Quentin Roosevelt. Aug 1904". "Mademoiselle" often appears in Theodore Roosevelt's letters in describing his children's exploits. She is likely the children's tutor or governess.

Quentin joined the fledgling Army Air Service after the United States entered WWI and served in the 95th Aero Squadron. He was by all accounts a fearless, if not somewhat reckless pilot. He was shot down in aerial combat on July 14, 1918 over Chamery, France.
