    Phineas T. Barnum Letter of Attorney Signed "Phineas T. Barnum." One page, partially printed on vellum, 7.5" x 12.5" (sight), New York, July 11, 1840, appointing:

    "Henry Collins of said City of New York, police officer my - true and lawful attorney for me - and in my - name, place, and stead to reclaim or bind John Dymon of said City of New York to me or to secure his services to me by any contract or contracts, agreement or agreements and sign, seal and deliver such contract or agreement in my name or otherwise and also for me and in my name to agree and make any such covenant, contract or agreement in relation to said John Dymon, which he my said attorney may think fit and my interest requiring."

    Matted in cream and handsomely framed to an overall size of 13.25" x 18.5". Light staining along the top margin.

    On the verso, also matted and framed is a testimony by notary public John A. Stemmler that P. T. Barnum " me personally" and that Barnum "signed...the foregoing Letter of Attorney and acknowledged the same to be his free and voluntary act & deed..."
