    Notables Honor Space Achievements: Five Autographs. This lot consists of four items, all in very fine or better condition, relating to the U.S. space program, as follows:
    1). Wernher von Braun (1912-1977) First Day Cover Signed. A 1962 cacheted (Artcraft) FDC picturing John Glenn, stamped with the U.S. Project Mercury 4¢ stamp (Scott #1193) cancelled on February 20, 1962. The "Father of Rocket Science" has boldly signed in blue ink vertically along the cachet.
    2). James Van Allen (1914-2006) and Clyde W. Tombaugh (1906-1997) First Day Cover Signed. A cacheted #10 envelope FDC with a se tenant pair of the U.S. Astronaut/ Gemini 4 5¢ stamps (Scott #1331-2) cancelled September 29, 1967. Space scientist Van Allen, after whom the Van Allen radiation belts were named, has signed boldly in black at the bottom middle. Tombaugh, the discover of the former planet known as Pluto, has signed near the cancellation adding the date and details of his discovery.
    3). Edmund Hillary (1919-2008) First Day Souvenir Signed. A 7" x 10.75" reproduction of the New York Times "Men Walk on the Moon" front page with the U.S. Moon Landing 10¢ stamp (Scott #C76) cancelled September 9, 1969. The first climber to reach the summit of Mt. Everest has signed in black ink at the bottom.
    4). Dalai Lama First Day Souvenir Signed. An 11" x 8.5" reproduction of the Apollo 11 moon plaque with the U.S. First Man on the Moon Landing 10¢ stamp (Scott #C76) cancelled September 9, 1969. The head of the Tibetan government in exile has signed at lower right in black ink.
