    Description

New York Early Americana Document and Autograph Collection consisting of more than 100 separate documents, letters, and autographs. Dates range from about 1750 through the late 1870s with most being in the pre-Civil War period. A number of letters are included with early U.S. postage stamps such as the 3¢ Washington imperf (Scott #11). A great look back at the business and social dealings of a time long since past. These documents are unsearched as to names- a genealogical goldmine. Just a few items included:

William Walforf Astor- the legendary financier and statesman; the Waldorf Astoria was built on the site of his New York residence. Autograph Letter Signed.

August Belmont- ambassador, politician and avid sportsman; the Belmont Stakes is named after him. Signature.

John R. Bleecker- early Albany politician and New York surveyor. Autograph Document Signed.

Buffalo Corning and New York Railroad Company- large $500 bond from 1853, 35 coupons still intact.

For the New York historian, this lot would be a treasure trove of information. Generally fine condition. From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
