    Description

    An amazing collection!

Neil Armstrong: Eight Signed Philatelic Covers, Circa 1970. A combination of flight-related, special cancellation, and first day covers- eight in total. All are from the same collection and all are authentically signed, circa 1970, by the first man to walk on the moon. Each is described below:
    (1) Moon Landing Cover- The familiar NASA Manned Spacecraft Center Stamp Club official commemorative cover with a July 20, 1969, Houston machine cancellation with the stamped notation: "U.S.A. Moon Landing 7-20-69/ 3:17 P. M. Houston Time" just beneath. Signed just to the right of the color cachet. Addressed in ink at lower right. Extremely fine condition.
    (2) Splashdown Recovery Cover- A plain envelope with the rubber stamped Apollo 11/ AS 506 U.S. Navy Recovery Force cachet. Cancelled aboard the U.S.S. Hornet on July 24, 1969. Signed at upper left. Letter to original recipient enclosed. Addressed in ink across length of cover. Very fine condition.
    (3) Souvenir Cancellation Cover- A plain envelope bearing a single 10¢ First Man on the Moon stamp placed so that the Wapakoneta, Ohio, machine "Hometown of/ Neil Armstrong/ First Man on Moon" cancellation is totally visible. Signed at upper left. Addressed in ink at lower right. Fine condition with a small tear at upper left (not touching the signature).
    (4) First Day Cover- A single 10¢ First Man on the Moon stamp with a September 9, 1969, "First Day of Issue" cancellation at Washington, D.C. on a Sarzin cover. The cachet features a B&W crew photo with the text: "Armstrong, Collins and Aldrin/ Leave Earth Orbit/ On to the Moon for Mans First/ Extra Terrestrial Step". Armstrong has signed just to the right of the cachet. Addressed in ink at lower right. Extremely fine condition.
    (5) First Day Cover- As above with a different Sarzin cover. This cachet has a green monotone image of the docked spacecraft above the moon's surface with the following text: "Apollo 11 First Orbit/ of the Moon/ Lunar Orbit Injection July 19/ 1:22 pm EDT 244,930 miles from earth." Signed to the right of the cachet. Addressed in ink at lower right. Some light central discoloration affecting the signature, otherwise very fine condition.
    (6) First Day Cover- As above, another Sarzin cover with a brown monotone rendition of Armstrong stepping onto the lunar surface with the text: "Day One Year One/ Man Walks Upon the Surface of the Moon." Signed to the right of the cachet. Addressed in ink at lower right. Just a hint of light discoloration at top, likely from the flap glue, that doesn't detract. Extremely fine condition.
    (7) First Day Cover- Another Sarzin cover, as above. The B&W cachet has images of the crew and the earth from space with the text: "Apollo 11 Astronauts/ Mission Completed/ On Their Way Home to the/ Good Earth." Armstrong's signature is just to the right of the cachet. Ink address at lower right. Extremely fine condition.
    (8) First Day Cover- A Sarzin cover, as above, with a B&W image of the crew on the Hornet, text as follows: "Pacific Splashdown/ Moon Men Recovered./ Enclosed in Isolation Garments/ They Step on the Hornet." Signed to the right of the cachet. Ink address at lower right. Extremely fine condition.
Also included in this lot is an additional splashdown recovery cover as (2) above, but unsigned and in fine condition.

Philatelic material signed by Armstrong is scarce and desirable. A great opportunity for a dealer or serious collector.
