"...I cannot carry your envelope on the Apollo XI space flight."

Neil Armstrong 1969-Dated Typed Letter Signed Regarding Carrying a Personal Philatelic Item on Apollo 11. A one page letter on NASA letterhead, 8" x 10.5", June 9, 1969, Houston, Texas, to Major Richard C. Randt. Just weeks before the mission, Armstrong turns down a request as follows, in full: "Thank you very much for your letter of May 30th. I appreciate your interest and regret that I cannot carry your envelope on the Apollo XI space flight. Weight and space are always precious commodities in a spacecraft and you can understand why it is not feasible for an astronaut to carry the thousands of articles that people from all over the world request he carry on a mission. However, we have autographed the envelope for you and send our best wishes to you." Signed: "Neil Armstrong". One can only imagine how many similar requests this crew received. Extremely fine condition. From the Steven R. Belasco Collection of Space Memorabilia.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
