    Description

    Melvin Purvis Typed Memorandum Signed "M. H. Purvis." One page, 8" x 10.5", Chicago, April 4, 1934.

Melvin Purvis's name is synonymous with the FBI's crackdown on crime in Chicago during the 1930s. Perhaps he's best known for his efforts in bringing John Dillinger's - Public Enemy #1 - crime career to a bloody end at Chicago's Biograph Theater a few months after authoring this memorandum. Though Purvis's memorandum to his special agents in the Chicago office has nothing to do with Dillinger, it does have some interesting historical content. The memo deals with two New Deal programs, the Public Works Administration and the short-lived Civil Works Administration. The memo clarifies investigation responsibilities between the Department of the Interior and the FBI. The FBI would handle CWA investigations; the Department of Interior PWA investigations.

Two filing holes at the top edge, else fine condition.
