    Marcus Garvey Typed Letter Signed. One page, 8.25" x 10.5", on Universal Negro Improvement Association letterhead, London, May 22, 1939, to Thomas W. Harvey informing him that "the School of African Philosophy is now issuing Certificates of graduation to its students" for $1.00. Folds with areas of minor staining. Garvey founded the UNIA, a Black Nationalist fraternal organization, in 1914. The organization reached its peak in the 1920s, but declined after Garvey was deported from the U.S. to Jamaica in 1927, following his conviction of mail fraud.
