    John T. Ford: Two Autographed Letters Signed. Pair of ALS's from the owner of Ford's Theatre. The first is a 4" x 6" letter, lacking blank integral leaf, written to actress J. M. Davenport (Jean Margaret Davenport) with proposed terms of her engagement ("... sharing after $130 and a half benefit each week...". Together with a 6 ½" x 8" 3-page letter written to Mr. McKeon on September 5, 1855 from the Holliday Street Theatre in Baltimore. The letter deals in length with matters of the theater: "... Eddy [likely Edwin Booth] opened tonight. Received at the end of Macbeth with an immense call and very great enthusiasm... Circus Museum & Front [Street Theatre] open. The latter opened last Saturday to 250. Tonight it has only 50... The Front wont survive this week the place is haunted with ancient creditors constables sheriffs & c. Eddy will play a great engagement... Charles St. opens on Monday. It will not be I opine of long duration. It will be the only 50 ct. house..." Signed: "Yours in haste/ Jno. T. Ford". We include an envelope postmarked 1893 from Henry Clay Ford to collector E. Rosenburger (a.k.a. Al Fostell) that likely contained these two letters being offered. Formerly in the A. E. Fostell-Ed Emerson Collection.
