    Description

Guenter Wendt Signed Mercury-Era Photos (Two). Wendt served as "Pad Leader" from the flight of Ham the chimpanzee on Mercury-Redstone 2 in 1961 through to the early Shuttle missions before his retirement in 1989. He was the last earthbound face seen before liftoff by many of the astronauts during that period and they all shared a strong admiration and respect for him. Two items offered here, as follows.
    (1) A rare 10" x 8" B&W from his personal photo collection of him with "Ham" in his arms. Signed boldly in black felt tip: "'Ham'/ America's first/ chimp in Space/ Guenter F. Wendt/ Padleader".
    (2) An 8" x 10" B&W glossy of a rocket on the pad, signed in black felt tip: "Mercury Atlas - Prep. For Liftoff/ Guenter F. Wendt/ Padleader".
    Both excellent.
