Smith, a staunch abolitionist, writes that he is transmitting "a pamphlet entitled 'How to settle the Texas Question'" and that "a few of us have undertaken . . . to arouse the people to one more effort to keep slaveholding Texas out of our family of States." Folds. Small area of ink smudging.
