    Description

Gemini 5 Crew, Backup Crew, & Deke Slayton: Typed Letter Signed. A humorous one page letter, on 8" x 10.5" plain stationery, August 10, 1965, no place. Just eleven days before the Gemini 5 launch, Elliot See writes a letter "To Whom It May Concern". It reads, in full: "Mr. Lewis Hartzell served as chef during the final pre-flight training period for the Gemini 4 and 5 flight crews. In this capacity he was responsible for preparing low residue diet menus as well as regular meals. It is our considered opinion that the quality and quantity of his meals posed a real threat to the space program - we ate so much we almost overloaded the spacecraft before launch!" Signed at the close, as follows: "Elliot See (NASA Astronaut)", "Neil Armstrong", "Gordon Cooper", "Charles Conrad Jr", and "D K Slayton". Fine condition with a rusty paperclip impression and original mailing folds. From the Steven R. Belasco Collection of Space Memorabilia.
