Fred Haise Autograph Letter Signed. One page, 8" x 10.5" plain stationery, January 4, 1974, Seabrook, Texas, to "Kevin". It reads, in full: "Thanks so much for remembering me with your silk screened envelopes. And I can't tell you how glad it is to hear of your improved health - it really is a Happy New Year. I have a little better appreciation for a physical struggle related to health myself now. I have been blessed all of my 40 years with perfect health. Then this past August I crashed an aircraft and incurred 55% burn injury. I was in the hospital for 2½ months. Am now back at work half days working on Space Shuttle. By summer of 1974 I should be fully recovered. So the Good Lord has been kind to both of us." Signed "Fred Haise". His personal address label is affixed at lower left. The aircraft crash Haise mentions was of a BT-13 aircraft that had been modified to look like a Japanese dive-bomber (it had been used in the filming of Tora! Tora! Tora!) It took him more than a year to regain flight status. Haise spent the next several years in the development and free flight testing of the Space Shuttle before leaving NASA in 1979. Very fine condition with minor faults on the left edge. From the Steven R. Belasco Collection of Space Memorabilia.
